I am going back onto active duty although it took over a year I was able to keep my rating and paygrade. Once the ECM got my package it only took a few days to get approved.

Good to hear. Wow over a year. Good to hear the ECMs let you know so fast. Once they get the papers, about how long is the decision?

I believe they had the papers for just a few days, but I heard that they can hold onto the papers for a couple weeks also.

Thanks for the reply...Hopefully I can get answers soon. ECM got my package 2 weeks ago now. I know it takes time, I was just wondering about the standard procedure. If anyone else has other comments, please note it.
Appreciate all the info of anyone dealing with
ECM right now!

I am a Navet. Once the ECM got my package it took about a week to be approved, but I also had a Senior Chief helping me b/c it was taking so long with the waiver process. I am now at Navet training in Great Lakes I got here on July 7th.

Hey cdonson, this is april05 here. I read that you are in Great Lakes now. Hey man, I was in the Navy for 3 years back in 1994 and just now trying to go back active...been waiting since April of this year to get this done. My RE code is fine, age and medical all fine. ECM package went up JULY 01..still waiting...so you say it took about a week for you. What rate are you and rank?

What are you actually doing up there at TPU right now. Lots of us would love to know what the 60 days in Great Lakes for Prior Service is like.

I am an AW2 I believe the only reason mine went through the ECM so quick is b/c my Senior Chief at the recruiting station helped me so much.

At TPU in Great lakes the staffs main goal is to get you strength gained back into the Navy and to make sure your pay is good. There are also a few classes that you will be required to take. You will take basic fire fighting and do a live fire with the guns.

I dont know about 60 days here most people seem like there here between 4 and 6 weeks and few are here longer.

Hey cdonson, april05 here...just wondering...

Are you marching, standing inspections there at TPU.
The word is for OSVETS and NAVs both during TPU
fo to classes with the recruits and do firefighting, gas chamber, and pistol range......are these facts....

Thanks for all your help...if you have time, let us know about the marching and so forth and what kind of schedule you are during, PT ect...

At what point since July 07 and your arrival have they granted you liberty and is it overnight?

Thanks for all the help and I do hope to be passing through TPU soon...

There is no marching while at the Navet/Osvet barracks. The only inspection so far have been standard room inspections. You will be required to attend some classes such as firefighting gas chamber and pistol quals, but you will sit in the back away from the recruits, dont worry the instructors will know that you are navet/osvet and will treat you accordingly as long as you dont act stupid.

Liberty is granted after working hours, assuming you are not on duty, as long as you are there for morning muster and able to preform your duties you can stay out as long as you like.

cdonson, thanks for everything, your information is great. Great to get the facts from someone already there. I knew it could not be that much of a headache.

P.S. Are you doing daily PT? Just have to make sure I am back up to standard as they say...thanks again

They give us time to pt every monday wednesday and friday, assuming you have no classes, appointments or duty. You will also have to run a prt here. Also there are plenty of gyms here to work out at and an indoor and outdoor track. Plus there is an indoor swiming pool.

cdonson, Saw on the other posting that you may be headed overseas??? You got orders fast there at TPU. Does it happen that fast? No wonder you do not stay there 60 days like all the recruiters say. Good Luck

A few questions about the TPU barracks for NAVETS @ RTC..
- How many to a room?
- How frequent are room inspections?
- Communal or private bathrooms?

Thanks to anyone who can answer. Smile

To the previous posted question..above, I do not mean to sound rude or not helpful, but the questions above coming from Prior Service NAVET should know the answers.

*THERE ARE NO BATHROOMS IN THE NAVY
( THEY ARE CALLED THE HEADS )
sure, you get a private bathroom with a
view!!! Come on...

*About the number of people in a room. 2-4 if that...why would it matter...
BERTHING AREAS ON SHIPS HAVE 50-100 PLUS

*Room Inspections....THIS IS THE MILITARY.THEY CAN INSPECT YOU AND YOUR QUARTERS EVERYDAY.
(Why Worry!! You should stay SQUARED AWAY
at ALL times

I'm prior service Marines trying to get into the Navy. I've been out since May 2005. After months of paperwork and such I finally went to MEPS at the beginning of August. Took a new ASVAB and a full physical then talked to the classifier in the liason office. Basically I picked about half a dozen jobs I wouldn't mind doing and they submitted my package to the ECMs. Got a call at the beginning of this month saying I was approved for FC and just signed a contract today saying I will ship 25 Feb 2009. A bit later than I wanted but at least I have something on paper. 1 October is the beginning of a new fiscal year so my recruiter is going to be submitting DARs every so often to see if I can get the date moved up a bit.

FC was one of the jobs I picked, it wasn't my top choice but I am satisfied with it. I would assume had I said no to that one they would have sent it onto the next ECM. After working with several different recruiters over the span of more than a year I wasn't about to screw it up by being stubborn and waiting to see what else I could get.

The one month turn-around time from the ECMs was in line with what the recruiter had said, "Could be one week could be three months"

I got out of the Marines as an E4 and will be entering the Navy as an E3 with advancement to E4 after schooling and such. Which is really the same as any other person entering the FC rating if I understand correctly. I would have said yes even if they said I would have to come in as an E1 and go to bootcamp again, I'm not picky, I just want to get back into the military.

I've seen the question before about enlistment bonuses on threads like this. I didn't get one when I joined the Marines, but I am getting one this time around. I didn't even have to ask about it. It just showed up on my contract.

Well, that's all I can think to write now. Any questions, ask away.

April 05, any updates? You seem to be getting around on the prior service threads. Just interested to know if you've heard anything yet.

April 05, Here...No good on my re-enlistment...It has been a rough misleading year. Found out my KIT was pulled over the summer and NEVER went to ECM for approval. Got a different recruiter and just found out...it NEVER went either...stated no Priors till after the FY.....I see you got in as an ex marine....I would callm you a Prior too, but thye say they are not taking them. Searching for another recruiter so maybe one day, I can find one that actually will do what the navy pays them to do.....A little paperwork seems to be a problem to a recruiter.....

I was also told that NO prior will be in the DEP program more than 4-6 weeks. I see you are in until Feb of next year....so I see that was not true either. I cant give up...maybe one day...I will get a fair shot.... april 05
