I will be going to A school in Meridian, MS next year and I was wondering if I am allowed to visit family on the weekends. I would be about 100 miles from home.

Do you get to take your laptop? What about a car? Since I will be 100 miles away from home it would be very easy to get my car there.

Will I get to go off base during the evening?

Thanks you in advance!

Each training command has rules on how far away from base you can go on weekends. The one I was at many years ago had a 100 mile limit. Over 100 miles and you'de have to take leave to be legal.

Once you get to your school you'll get a copy of the rules and regs for that command. Normally at first your preaty restricted in what you can do but after a period of time the rules are relaxed to give you more options.

As was said, each trainning command will have their own rules.
In my day, if you wanted to go more than 60 miles, you had to ask permission and get an out of bounds chit, not hard to get.
Most times if you can't have a car, it's because the base is small and theres no parking available. If thats the case, the off base locals know that and provide off base parking(for a price) and you can have a car, you just can't take it on base. Make sure you ask about this befor you do it.
Laptop probably. but remember, you gotta safeguard it.

Thanks for the replies! Really helps a lot! I have another question. If my husband and daughter come up, would I be allowed to stay in a hotel with them?
