I think you only need a Secret Clearance. I enlisted as an IT and had a interview with the clearance people and they told me they were conducting a Secret Clearance.

I had some issues with my credit so thats why they had to interview me. Everything went well and my clearance was granted with credit issues. Smile

You may have had your initial interview but you likely have a few more to go before you get a TS. The initial interview you went through is likely related to your basic clearance and not your SCI which sometimes comes later. Plus the interview does not know if the clearance will be granted so if they told you that everything was fine don't count your chickens yet.

So are you saying that IT does require a Top Secret Clearance? If so that sucks. They didn't tell me that. And no my recruiter called me and told me about my clearance being granted. But you know what he could have lied. He told me to lie about everything when I initially went to MEPS (And I did it like a DUMB A**) but of course eveything came out in the interview. But I guess if they would not have granted it they would have ask me to choose another rate.

So, you are saying your recruiter lied to you and you went along with it? Yes, you are a DUMB A** if someone told you to lie and you did it.
Your gut should have told you not to do it.
You also should do your homework. It is up to you to do your research and get the facts. You are the one signing on the dotted line.

Yep he told me to not mention my credit issues. I did read where you need a SCI but when I had my interview and they were only conducting a SECRET I assumed that it changed. I didn't think they were going to do one clearance then go and complete another one. Why not just start a SCI. I know it takes a while for those to go through but seems like it makes more sense to do it that way.

Hope you were honest with the interviewer. As Catherine has already posted a link to a previous forum on this question, but I will answer again: Yes IT requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance to be completed.

Yes, IT requires a Top Secret clearance.

I found that out the hard way.

Secret is the minimum to have access to the workspace, not everyone has TS or SCI.

Xeria,
In order to enlist in the IT rating indivdiuals must be qualified to obtain a TS clearance. It may not be required depending on the command and the actual job a member is performing but they still get the background investigation for a TS/SCI.
