I have met with local Navy recuiter.I am 24. I obtained my GED in Jan09 (I am NOT a loser. I completed all but my senior year. Our parents divorced, left us with no adult to register us for school) and I worked to support my brother and myself. My obligation to support him is finished as he can now support himself.
I am now fully registered for college in Summer II and Fall class schedule which will provide a total of 18 college credit hours. The recuiter told me to return when I complete 12 college credit hours which will not be until Dec09. I have received conflicting information: - I must only be accepted/registered for school to join. - I must complete at least 30 days of classes then I will qualify for consideration into the Navy - I must complete 12 credit hours prior to consideration by the Navy. Does anyone have a definitive answer or is it warranted on a per individual/case by case basis? Thank you for your input, experience and time. Regards... |

I can confirm for you it is 15 credits if you are considered a Tier 2.
I graduated on my last semester of high school on an independent study program. The rest of my schooling was normal. I went to MEPS and the day I went there the navy decided to stop accepting Tier 2s. I was denied and told I needed to get 15 credits of college. Luckily I had 11 and just finished 2 weeks ago. I am getting my transcript and will be heading back. But it is 15 credits if you are considered a Tier 2. |

Say what? Where did you hear that? It's a service wide requirement in order to upgrade to Tier I 15 college credits in 100 level courses and as was said, C or better. With the current surge of qualified applicants, they're not changing that requirement anytime soon. You're on the right track (summer school and the upcoming semester), stick with it! |

I graduated high school the traditional way with 30 credits (only needed 22 credits to graduate). Would I be considered tier 1, or do I also need 15 college credits?

A traditional HS diploma is tier I.

As there is no such thing as "rank" for enlisted personnel, then the answer would have to be no. |

Ah....boats. Training our newbies on rank/ rate structure from the begining! LOL! Treima, you are exactly the same as a traditional high school grad with the college credits. as such, you are open to all ratings requiring hs dimplomas only (providing you meet the other requirements) and are eligible to obtain advanced rate. |

Depends on how many college credits you have and if they are 100 level or above. The 15 credits needed to make you eligible for the Navy will be subtracted from the 48+ that you have. |
