i have been reading on the internet that when you arrive at boot camp you will be issued the "new navy working uniform". Does anybody know if that is the truth?
check out the photos on the fleet training center Great Lakes web site...It shows recruits receiving their seabags--the NWU and Svc Uniforms are standard distro now...unless it was all PR...
The NWU, SU, and the new Navy PT gear are already being phased into the fleet on a region by region basis. Everyone will have to buy them by the end of 2010 anyway. Makes sense that they would issue them.
Actually makes very little sense for them to issue the NWU right now as its only authorized in the Virginia area at the moment. Not much sense recruits showing up in a uniform they aren ot authorized to wear because of regional requirements. None of the new recruits coming here to the DC area seem to have it in the sea bag yet(purchased mine while on leave down in virginia but not authorized for wear till sometime next year here)
NSU is authorized all over the fleet now it seems.
PT gear has been authorized across the fleet for almost a year now.
If you have been stationed in a region already authorized to wear the NWU (or issued at RTC) and you transfer to a new region that has not rolled out, you are authorized to wear it.
I see at least a dozen on base in San Diego every day even though we don't get them for another year.
The uniform transitions only create an even more un-uniform, uniformed service. Although it's kind of amusing at the NEX seeing people in: Summer whites SU NWU Jungle Cammo Dessert Cammo Army ACUs Marine Cammo
The new NWU's and NSU's are being issued at boot camp as we speak. I arrived at RTC on April 28th and just graduated June 26 and my division was in the second grad group to be issued the new uniforms.
