I'm hoping that someone might be able to give me a little more information. I'm a new Recruit (DEP'ed in Dec 15th Shipping to Basic May 27th)
I qualified for CTI which was one of the ratings I had a strong interest in. I went in understanding that I'd need to take the DLAB which I have scheduled for Jan 8th. But until I'd taken the DLAB I was signed up for another rating I qualified for as AIRC(in case I didn't pass the DLAB).
Though I have been trying to gain as much information I can on CTI. I know it's a fairly close-vested subject. Or as my father referred to the CTI field as the "Spies of the Navy" but I'd seen information that some qualified CTI's can also serve with AIRC and also go through SEREs, is this true, are there any out there who have? Or that CTI's could serve on multiple ships during a deployment. (ie: Start on Carrier go to a Destroyer and back, ect.)
In addition what's stationing like, it seems as if CTI's are a little bit more restricted. I'd really like to be attached more to Pacific Fleets than Atlantic. Any pointers on surviving /remaining qualified/ Passing the DLAB?
I'm still in school, so I'm not an expert on everything about CTI, but it is possible to go to SERE school and even go with Seal teams if that's something you'd be interested in. You're most likely not going to be on ships a whole lot at a CTI. Arabic/Farsi CTIs get stationed at Ft.Gordon, Georgia right after graduating. Asian languages go to Kunia, Hawaii. Russian - Maryland. Spanish - Texas. School is hella long, especially if you get Chinese, Korean, or Arabic. If you wanna be on the Pacific side of the world, try to get an Asian language. So many people want Chinese when they get here though, so it's kind of tough to get.
Thanks. I don't think I'd be able to do anything with SEALs, I'm female. But that's not going to keep me from always trying to do my best. Have you heard anything about Cryptos being on Aircrafts? Can you still volunteer for Sea Duty, after all it's part of the whole Navy experience right. Even though I know that some people never set foot on a ship. Which language are you studying?
