I was talking to a recruiter a few months ago and I was supposed to go to MEPS that following week; however, I've been hearing that the Navy is extremely over-manned, and that finding a rate and getting in is difficult.
This turned me away from the Navy because I don't really want to spend like over a year in the DEP just to get boned and not even get a rate I'd want, and now I have not talked to my recruiter in a few weeks. I've been reading as much as I can trying to figure out what I want to do, which branch to join, etc. but as far as I know the Marines are the only branch not "over-manned."
If anybody has any information regarding how the hell long will I be waiting if I sign up for the Navy/AF/Army/Marines right now please let me know. I'm certain I want to serve my country, in any way possible, but my #1 choice is for the Navy just because my dad and grandpa both served, and for the travel. I also have no problem with joining the Marines or Army as I'd be the best God damn soldier I'm able to be. Probably request a Ranger contract if I were to go the Army route....
Anyways I apologize for rambling..I just really need some help, so any info. would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance for all of your input and help. P.S. I'm 19 soo idk if that helps out with ya'll knowing my situation, where I'm at in my life, etc...thank you all.

not sure where you got that, but according to the recruiters here not so much.

talk to recruiters. we have no idea, especially with the number of factors involved. the more qualified you are, the shorter the wait normally.

If you know what you want and narrow down your branch the next step is to go to a recruiter and give them your offer. Your 19, recruiter would die for a new recruit. Next month is the new fiscal and all numbers starts all over again so you have more chance of going in the navy, I myself have been working with a recruiter this week to go active Navy. You my friend have a better chance, I suggest you go see a recruiter. They will rush you in if your qualify, no waivers, good asvab scores. It took me less then a month and I was in when I join the Navy in 99's but things have change since then but the process is the same.

Nope. recruiting numbers are higher than ever (recessions do wonders for recruiting) and recruiters rarely jump.

It's not the same as it was when we joined (I went to boot in 99)
