Please remember that I am new and I have talked to a Navy requiter. I have some questions that he didn't know the answers to.

I am looking at going into the Navy but I would like to become a Nurse or PA down the road. I have a B.S. in Electronic Engineering Tech. I would like to know if there is any Navy programs that will allow me to get my BSN or PA? When I ask this question I keep on getting the answer that the Navy will pay for any school that I take (online classes).

Thanks for you help.

If you do enlist one of your benefits is a navy college fund. meaning if you wanted to pursue a nursing license or PA then you can use the college fund to pay for the classes and certificates. so it really doesnt matter what you take as a job, but if you wanted to stay in the medical field then i would recommend the HM rating otherwise known as Corpsman.

Good Luck

HM however is hard to get. Impossible for females period and a very long wait list for males.

getting the Navy to pay for a BSN or the required degree for PA is HARD. you need to speak to a medical acessions recruiter.

If you're in nursing school already it's relatively easy to get help with Nursing, but until that point (and since with a BSAT you probably don't have the Pre-reqs to apply to nursing school or PA school) it's harder.

As a degree holder you are not eligible for STA-21 either.

On my first boat 20 years ago our HM1 got selected for PA school. He was promoted to HMC and was going to be an officer upon completion of school. Sadly I lost touch with him after that.

If you're really thinking about nursing or PA, you need to have chemistry (inorganic and organic), sociology, two semesters of psychology and two semesters of anatomy & physiology. If you have those (kind of doubtful with your degree) and have an A in each one then you can apply to attend those schools. Once you get accepted then the Navy has some great financial incentives for becoming an RN with a BSN. (I was in school for nursing and had to take every one of those classes except sociology because I had a business degree going into the process.)
