Hi all,
This week I went to talk to army and air force because those were the branches i were considering but because they are not accepting waivers I can not join right now. that lead me to talking to recruiters in the other two branches. The navy recruiter said that I should be fine and wanted me to call him in a week to to schedule an appointment. What I need a waiver for is a possession of marijuana charge that I got first offenders status and completed the probation, drug classes, and other requirements to get it dropped. Basically my question is if the navy is accepting enlistees that require a waiver to join?

Yesterday I was at MEPS and the doctor told me I shouldn't have trouble attaining a waiver for my pectus excavatum, so I am assuming the Navy is accepting waivers.

However, I am still worried about getting waivers as I also need them for Asthma and ADHD. I wasn't ever actually diagnosed with ADHD, but I guess the doctor was assuming I had it. (I was prescribed ritalin when I was 6 years old at the request of my school, however I only took it for one week.)

If your recruiter thinks he can help you out then run with it, just dont get your hopes up too much.

grn15,
If you were prescribed ritalin you had to have been diagnosed with ADHD. A doctor has to make a diagnosis before he/she can prescribe any medication.

Medical waivers are much different than moral/legal waivers.

OP,
If your recruiter thinks he can get a waiver then continue to work with him. As far as the military is concerned your charge is a conviction, not dropped.

What are the chances for me to obtain waivers? I haven't been able to speak with my recruiter today and I'm very concerned.

I need one for Asthma. The doctor at MEPS said it was conclusive that I had no proof of Asthma since 1996 (13 years ago, since around my 7th birthday.

One for ADHD, Was prescribed ritalin and took it for one week. I have a 3.84 high school GPA, 25 college credits and a 95 AFQT score to ensure that I have no issues with ADHD.

And a last for very mild pectus excavatum, which is a somewhat common and really shouldn't be an issue.

I suppose everything now is in the hands of my recruiter and the higher-ups, but is there anything I can do to obtain the waivers?

I thought that Asthma was a permanent DQ? You may have to go thru lots of paperwork if it has not been an issue for 13 years or so??

Asthma after age 13 is a PDQ. At age 7, he will just need medical records (along with the other stuff he has listed). Nothing really sounds major though.

I was at MEPS last week for my second visit to see an Orthopedist. I had 5 other guys and a girl in the same situation (Navy, Marines, Army, Coast Guard)

I don't know if they are approving waivers but where I'm located they are still accepting requests.

Not completely true my moms friends son got into Army Rangers and he is 19 and had asthma much later than 13 years old. It also depends on what kind of asthma too.

Army is not Navy and all branches are raising waiver standards right now. past the age of 13 is a DQ, its up to branch to grant waivers

Well since he will never get waivers for the corps, I think he will never see the inside of boot camp (or the outside as I remember as more popular for the Marines).

Criminal convictions don't count as "qualifications" and I do believe that the term "wannabe" accurately reflects someone who wants to be part of an organization they are not actually a member of (and may never be).

As you will learn, you will be lower than whales*** when you become a recruit (or should I say IF)!

Just to let you know, it's not a good time to be trying to join with a felony waiver since little to none are granted these days.

I see everyone sticks together thats good but I would rather someone give me some advice in a positive way other than trying to be a smart a** no dis. I have enough negativity in my life. As far as my WAIVER I only need 1 I'm working on that with my recruiter and with my background other than the felony from my understanding it shouldnt be a problem. I think you guys should be more supportive of young men and women trying to do something positive instead of being so quick to put somebody down. Wink
