probably not. if you were given a DEP ID card( and from what I udnerstand not every Recruiting office gives these out) you may have LIMITED access to a base and its facilities.

So Iam in DEP...waiting. Does anyone know what happens next regarding meeting with your recuiter, papper work and stuff like that. I have talked to mine on the phone and it has been over a month since MEPS but he says I really dont "need" to come in.
Can some one please tell me what the real deal is, because I have talked to several sailors that say their experience was much different.

Yea mine is different. my recruiter told me to attend the meeting every once in a month. My recruiter is very helpful and the other recruiters in our recruiting office. They should tell you what to do next.

My recruiter has me call him once a week usually on Mondays, All DEP's PT Tue & Thur, and stop by the office on Fridays. I thought this was standers for all of the recruiting offices, I guess I was wrong. Plus we have DEP meeting once a month. Looks like you need to get on your recruiter and see what’s going on. Do you PT with them during the week? Do you have weekly or monthly PFA tests?

I'm in the DEP and my ship date is June 22 of next year. I went to the ROTC office at a school and was told that I would have to go to a tech school for a year to get my GPA up to get into the NROTC program. Would it be possible for me to do that given the time I have left? I know I can transfer from the DEP to NROTC but not sure how the tech transfer would work.

JT - you get my prize for the most confusing post this month.

First, if you are in DEP, you are in DEP until you opt out or ship out. I do not know of ANY provision for you to transfer to NROTC from DEP.

ACT and SAT are eligibility requirements for NROTC, along with many others.

I do not believe that "tech school" credits will help you in any way toward a NROTC scholarship.

Here is the official website for NROTC.

If selected for a scholarship you can not only get out of DEP, but also if selection occurs post ship date (and your application was in before you left) they will provisionally let you out of your enlisted contract.

NROTC scholarships are only awarded in 2 and 4 year incriments at 4 year schools on the NROTC list. However, if you can do well and if they transfer to a 4 year and you do well then it may help you towards a 2 year later, but it's better to go to a Community college or a NROTC university (preferably the latter). It could also be a waste of time and money.

OP you have to be accepted for the scholarship to leave DEP for NROTC. You're not eligible to apply for an NROTC scholarship right now, and may never be accepted for one. Grades are only part of the picture they look at. If you want NROTC, skip the tech school, go straight to a 4 year university and volluntarily drill with the NROTC unit at the school, that way the CO will be able to observe you and hopefully reccomend you for a scholarship. Even then, you still may not get accepted as competition can be harder for those. If you drop DEP on your own and are not accepted, what will you do? Recruiters can sometimes be wary of DEP drops. Also, what do you think makes you Officer material?
