I am a prior service E-5 SW/AW, RE-R1 code honorably discharged in February '09 from the reserves. I have 7 years Active Duty experience and 3 deployments under my belt. I have been working with a NSW motivator for the past 8 months getting physically prepared to go SEAL. After speaking with MY recruiters and various senior enlisted I know that SEAL is one of the very few programs taking prior service. I am currently waiting on my medical records from the Records Management Center so that I can go to MEPS.

My questions are as follows:
-Having no broken service since 2001, except these past 6 months trying to enlist, when will I lose my rank? And is there a possibility of a waiver if I am at risk of losing my rank? I have been eligible for E-6 since September 2008 so I am not a "young" E-5.

-Also, I took my ASVAB in 2001 to join the Navy and scored a 79 and have the records to prove it. I qualify in all my line scores and am eligible for SEAL. Do I have to retake my ASVAB even though I already took it for the Navy and am staying Navy and have the actual personel record to prove the scores?

I appreciate all and any of your help. My recruiter is in his first year of recruiting and I hear "I dont know" too often. I am a motivated, dedicated 8 year E-5 and I just want the straight answers. Thank you all.

I don't know the answers to your questions, but I would suggest trying to look up the instructions on it. There has to be some kind of "OPNAVMILPERINSTMANADMIN" for prior service/ service break (after all there are instructions on everything else.) First try the Navy Personnel Center site or Bupers.

I'm in the same boat as you are. Dealing with my recruiter he informed me that i would retain my rank for up to a year after seperating. Also i wouldn't have to take the asvab again. Sounds like he/she should be calling there NC to find out these answers for you.

Here's some sound advice for you...if it ain't in writing, it ain't happening. Have him write it down and sign it.
