How is it determined where you're stationed when joining the navy FTS program. Is it like active duty where you're just stationed wherever the navy puts you or like the reserves where you're stationed near your place of enlistment.

Thanks, for any help. I greatly appreciate it.

I did the last 16 years of my career as an TAR/FTS. My duty stations as FTS:

SIMA NRMF Long Beach CA (1992-1994)

Naval Reserve Center Baton Rouge LA (1994-1998)

USS Sides, Sand Diego CA (1998-2001)

Naval Reserve Center Phoenix, AZ (2001-2004)

Naval Reserve Recruiting Area Central, Great Lakes IL (2004-2005)

NCWRON 5, San Diego CA(2005-2006)

IA Assignment, Bagram AB, Afghanistan (2007)

MSRON 1 (2008)

So the bottom line.....be prepared to move, deploy and fight for your country ALL OVER THE WORLD!

R/SKC(EXW/SW), USN(Ret)

SKC - since they have made it virtually impossible to communicate by PM or Email and my curiosity has got the best of me I am going to ask these questions in public. NO WAY am I trying to start a hissing contest of any kind, just in search of some facts.

1. Based on your history as TAR/FTS, how did you retire as USN?

2. Is there no longer a Fleet Reserve status until 30 years day for day is reached?

3. I would have expected your BR/CL to be USNRF6, and if truly retired, then USNR-T (or the new BR/CL for FTS.

Again, no attempt to start crap, just to be updated if things have changed.

I retired as a FTS, but there is no such thing on a signature block as USNR(FTS) or USNR(TAR), we are all USN.

I am in the Fleet Reserve. You don't hit RETIRED until 30 years. I don't officially retire until 22 May 2018.

Again, there is no such thing. I retired as USN. Everyone does! DFAS and NPC don't care!

Wow - huge changes.

An FTS in the Fleet Reserve is BR/CL USN!

A Fleet Reservist status is RET!

A retired FTS is BR/CL USN!

Boggles the old fart's mind. Confused

Thanks Chief.

When I was in the Army and after I got out my impression of the Navy came from the TAR Sailors back home at NAS Atlanta. I used to hang out at the Take 2 Club on base and in those days TAR Sailors I knew were Homesteaded. When I Joined the regular Navy, my eyes were opened. I've noticed FTS is very different these days and they can be stationed anywhere, where as TAR was just like the Army's AGR program still is today.

I really could care less what my status is, as long as I keep getting my retirement check every month from DFAS and 20% disability check from the VA! Smile
