I am considering joining the navy which i was actually really excited. I already signed paperwork with my recuiter but havent went to MEPS yet. I'm just contemplating now because my husband is in a wheelchair and I have a almost three year old son and I'm not sure what kind of special services they offered especially if i get deployed.

Any advice???

none. other than EFMP.. and that still will not cover everything. all it will do is guarantee you an ADA home for base housing.. but not necessarily guarantee you base housing. you will still have to secure child care for your son if required and any other care for your spouse that he requires..on your own.. in fact you will most likely need a Family Care Plan in effect before they will permit you to enlsit in the first place.

you will NOT be wxciused from deployments or any other military obligations just because your DH is handicapped.

trsut me.. i am also handicapped and my DH is 6 months into a Deployment. I am all alone and must make my own arrangements for doing little thinsg like getting to my doctor's appointments and securing groceries.

Luckily I have some great friends who are always there when I need them.

Okay. My recuiter also informed that because I have a dependent with special needs that there is that possibility that I wont be deployed for too long as opposed to a servicemember that doesnt have a dependent with special needs.

Is that true?

How does that even make sense? Do you get to fly home mid-deployment?

not even remotely.. your family status has exactly ZERO bearing on when, how often, and how long you will deploy.

simply isn;t fair to give you special teatment just becuase you have a family member with special needs.

If that were the case , my husband would have not deployed as often as he has.. especially when we lived overseas.
