I'm going to enlist in a couple of weeks and I've been taking some practice ASVAB tests and my electronics information line score has been terrible. I have Barron's guide, but the section for EI is jam-packed with so much information. Can any one give me hints on what to pay the most attention to?

Just study the basics. Get a general understanding of each subsection. The stuff they ask isn't nearly as detailed. Just study till you have a general grasp of the subject. I was worried too because i have the same study guide. The chapter on EI is huge. You'll be fine. make sure you research what line scores matter most in your job preference. Concentrate most on math, reading comp and vocab. Also the other sections are important but also depends what job you want. Also remember that the score they give you is just your AFQT score (two digit number) and that just determines your eligibility to join the Navy. You composite score (usually 3 digit number) is what matters for jobs. I swore in at MEPS last Wednesday 20080625, just be patient with them it won't be that bad.

Well I'm shooting for MT or IT and a decent EI score is needed for both. But thanks for the advice, I'm doing that now just trying to memorize the basic equations and the symbols and all.
I'm planning on seeing a recruiter on the 15th so I think I gave myself a decent amount of time studying. |

When you see your recruiter he'll give a practice test to see if you are even eligible to go test at MEPS. The practice test is just reading comp and vocab and math. The afternoon before MEPS physical portion you'll take the real ASVAB test, but thats a little ways down the road since you haven't talked to your recruiter yet. You'll have a lot of time to study. Your service liaison at MEPS will have a classifier that will talk about jobs with you based on your score.

When I see a recruiter, do I have to make a call and set up an appointment first or something, or can I just walk into the building?

It's best to call so someone will set aside some time just to talk to you. If you just walk in, they'll see if anyone is available to talk to you.
It's also better to call cause they'll probably ask you alot of eligibility questions on the phone to determine if you meet the basic Navy requirements before they'll ask you to come in. |

As with alot of things on about.com, that listing of ASVAB scores is out-of-date, as it relates to the combined lines scores needed, for a number ratings. BoatsBM1 |

Yeah just walk in anytime. When you first meet with him he'll talk to you and ask you some basic questions to see if you are eligible. Probably give you the practice test or tell you to come back later for the practice test.
