Well once he is gone guess what? I was told that in order to fly space a my spouse would have to be with me,he is deceased, well to bad but that is how it is. Forget the 20 + years you put in to help, that man do his job, and raise the kids who by the way are mostly military are married to military My son retired from military also my son-in-law, you guessed it no space a
They have tried to pass something for Widows for years but it has always fallen by the wayside unfortunately. I even know of a lady who was in the middle of a trip with her retired dh when he passed away. She had to get a commercial ticket home. Contact your senator and congressman to make sure that the rules do get changed allowing Widows/Widowers to fly Space A.

I was under the understanding that when a military member passes away and the spouse and children are given the means to relocate. Using commerical means. Now if a retired military member passes while traveling Space A, I would think that the Red Cross would step in. Either working with the military to transport the member and the spouse back to the first port then the members life insurance policy carrier would step in and help the spouse. Wouldn't that be right.

If AD member dies and family is stationed OCONUS then the military will pay for the family to go home to a location. It will usually be commercial.
If a Retiree dies while on Space A if in CONUS then the spouse will be allowed to fly back Space A. If OCONUS then it is not allowed and the spouse must pay for a commercial ticket.

The way I see it, I spent most of my life as a Military wife living in places I could not pronounce; learning how to do my own plumbing and many other things that are to numerous to mention because my husband was busy doing his duty for his Country proudly. I was glad to be a part of that and I do not regret any of it. "YES WE ARE AS RETIREE'S A MILITARY FAMILY".
