I usually don't post things about companies. Today is different. I just got back from AutoZone (Goodyear, AZ). I bought 10 quarts of motor oil, a couple of oil filters, and some leather cleaner/conditioner. Total bill was over $115. My "military discount" was listed at 10% on the receipt, but was totaled out at $2.90. I asked the cashier about it. He said that AutoZone doesn't give a discount on everything...only selected items.
I've never had a store tell me this before. I realize some don't offer ANY military discount, but I've never had a place tell me that they pick and choose what to give us discounts on.
To me, military discounts aren't just about the money. A place that offers discounts, in my opinion, is a place that has made an effort to show that they understand and respect the sacrifices that military members and their families make for our country. I do my part to show those businesses that I appreciate and respect THEIR support by giving them business. I can tell you, I probably won't be giving AutoZone any more business unless they change their military discount policy.
I'm not asking you to boycott AutoZone, just to be clear. I'm just trying to relay information about something that bothered me today. I'll have to check next time I go to O'Reilly and see if their policy is similar. Hopefully it's not a growing trend and is just an isolated incident.
this is not unusual at all- I will sometines need to go to our local very expensive pet supply store- and the holistic grain free Cat food I buy at 48 dollars for 16 lbs does not "qualify" for the 10% military discount.
BUT if I buy the 20# purina cat chow I can get the military discount.
Actually, AutoZone doesn't price oil. That was why you didn't get a discount. Many places can not give you a discount on oil because it isn't their price. And, if anything is on sale, say oil and a filter, they can't give you a discount on that either. It isn't really AutoZone's fault.
I am currently employed by Autozone. Just for future reference, they are not able to discount oil, antifreeze, powersteering/brake fluid, or transmission fluid. It is not our policy, its the supply company's. Autozone offers a courtesy discount of %10 to military and public servants, i.e. firefighters, police, emt, etc. They also offer %20 to Autozone employees. Employees don't get a discount on these items either. I don't agree with it, due to the fact that these products are %40 of our business.
