Gave my VA ID and was given 10% with no problem brought back a recent large purchase and was given the 10% off also as a credit to my Lowes account, saved me $150.00
A lot of the times, the day to day discount is up to the manager. The new store in Canton GA is one that does offer the discount every day. I use it every time I’m in there, and let the cashier know that this is one of the reasons I shop at that store. I have a friend who works for Home Depot corporate and he asked how HD could get me back. I said provide the same discount.
It never hurts to ask for the discount, and when a store or companies offer the discount let them know you appreciate it and you will be back because of it.

That would be an added bonus. I use to be a Valspar/American Tradition paint user. But not anymore. Discount or not, I'll go to HD for my paint for now on. Even the premium without the primer is a little cheaper than Valspar.
I got 10% at Lowes in Alexandria, VA today without any questions at all. I shop at several Lowes in Virginia and Maryland and they have all given the discount.
Here is a message from our Community Outreach Office about this:
I checked with Lowe's corporate office and talked with someone in their Marketing Department. The 10% discount offer is at participating Lowe's locations, and it is up to the store manager to offer it on a continual basis. Lowe's does offer nationwide special promotion campaigns in recognition of military veterans at various times throughout the year, particularly Veterans' Day. These promotion campaigns are for all Lowe's locations - and will be announced under the "Special Offers" navigation link from the company's homepage http://www.lowes.com/. Additional information is also released through press releases that are sent out to the media. Thanks, Vince Patton Director, Community Outreach, Military.com
