You have to tell them you're military...if you search the FAQ on the page, it'll give you better info. The discount is only good on certain plans, though.

Your spouse should have one, or if you're Army your spouse should be able to sponsor an AKO account for you so that you can have one.
And Amen on the no signal thing, my in-laws finally followed us to Verizon, just short of me going insane from hearing that clicking noise whenever I tried calling them and their phones weren't getting a signal.
