How are we getting a discount on rental cars, yet get hit with these exorbitant surcharges and taxes? The whole process seems to be a ripoff to me, Why should we have to pay for a 5% at most discount, which gets eaten up in the surcharges?

discout is offered by the rental car company-about 75 percent of the taxes and fees are imposted by the airport or locality-and everyone gets hit with them.

I just applied a discount code available here for AVIS. I was renting the car for 9 days. With the "Military Discount" it came to $293. I backed it up and took away the "Military Discount" and resubmitted, leaving everything the same. The total came to $280.

Hertz, without any type of discount came to $270 with the same choices and times.

Sorry Avis, try harder.

Over the past several years, I have rented an auto several times. Each time, I researched price and options before committing to a contract. Each and everytime, I found the best deal through USAA Insurance.

I strongly suggest that you check USAA before renting a car!
