I'm planning on buying a pistol and a rifle; from what I've heard and read the rifle isn't a problem but hand guns are very controlled and the laws vary from state to state.
I was wondering if there was a federal hand gun permit or any special permits for military personnel being that I'll be stationed in NC but my home state is VT. How would I go about being able to carry in both states and in between? Have looked online but didn't find anything helpful Thanks |

CCW is a state permit, usually issued by a county law enforcement agency. Many states recognize other states permits, allowing you to legally carry in a state that did not issue you the CCW.
There is no federal permit, nor any special consideration for military personnel not on duty. This site will answer all your questions: PACKING.ORG Life ain't worth living, if ya ain't got a good cigar. |

There is no "exception" for military personnel either. If you want to carry you must comply with the state/local laws, and you will NOT be allowed to carry on base. |

The NRA website(s) has alot of info, links to info. You should join; their magazines which would accompany membership often have articles on various laws and regulations, and upcoming legislative agendas regarding firearms, ammo, etc.

Roger that... If you possess any type of weapon on an Army Installation you MUST register it with the local Provost Marshall's Office within 5 working days of arrival to your new duty station. You register them at the same office that you get your post sticker at. All you have to do is state that you own X number of handguns and X number of rifles, or shotguns. They will give you a form to fill out with your Unit and their office. You will have a copy, your Unit will have a copy, and the PMO will have a copy. When you want to go hunting or to the range to shoot, you must have your copy of the registration form with you when you are in possession of your personal weapons on post. |

If you have PCS orders to NC, then you are eligible for a NC resident CCW permit. See Packing.orgfor what you need to do. Your local gun store either offers the needed classes or can tell you who does.
As far as carrying in between, once you've to a NC permit, VA should be OK, PA maybe, but MD, DE, and the People's Soviets of NY and NJ, no way in hell. |

The only actual 'national concealed carry' that exist is for active and honorably retired law enforcement officers.
Under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004 (HR 218) a qualifying LEO or retired LEO may carry a concealed weapon within the jurisdiction of the United States of America. There are certain restrictions, but this is the only legal form of concealed carry for the entire and you must still obey the state concealed carry laws. More information about HR 218: http://www.leaa.org/218/218text.html There are no provisions under this act for military personnel. I hope this helps, SPC Nguyen |
