Hello, I am currently thinking about joining the Navy and I have a certain medical issue. I have pretty bad yellow toenails (toe fungus, gross!) and am currently under treatment. The only problem is that a whole new toenail length has to grow in before it is gone. The situation is that if I signed the dotted line tomorrow I would be shipping next February. This is easily enough time for my toenail to cure because I have already been on treatment for 4 months. My question is this:
Do they allow for me to sign the dotted line with a current medical issue such as this as long as it will be cleared up before my ship date? This message has been edited. Last edited by: Mattius459,
Sadly i also have the same [disgusting] issue, but im taking care of it. I've been doing some research and as far as I now, they wont let you take anything while in basic training only.
-I have a question for you though, did you checked out OK in MEPS with such condition? reason is that im about to join but that's pretty much the only medical concern I have.
I have not even went to MEPS yet, my recruiters and I are trying to figure out things before we schedule the physical. Have you? What did they say? I'm currently on Lamisil but theoretically would be off it by the time I ship for boot. Would they let me enter the DEP while I was still under treatment for this?

-No I haven't yet, as far as I know this is not suppose to be a big deal, as long as it doesn't hinder your performance at Basic, by that i mean no pain or discomfort during workouts. Also try to make your nail look as healthy as possible before going to MEPS just to be on the safe side.
*this is all based on internet research that i have done thoroughly, not experience*
EDIT: This is what i got from the "Standards of Medical Fitness"
g. Current localized types of fungus infections (117), interfering with the proper wearing of military equipment or the performance of military duties, are disqualifying. This message has been edited. Last edited by: warup89,
Use Dial brand soap to prevent this from happening again. I know, it may sound like a trivial suggestion, but seriously, this is what National Geographic photographers carry with them to prevent infection. My mom is a nurse too, and she always told me to use Dial for that reason.
Did you go through MEPS without a problem? I also have toenail fungus but a pretty severe case. 3 on left foot and 2 on right foot. Did they say anything? Advice would be greatly appreciated.
