Now, I just need to know if it is waiverable. The people at St. Louis have seem to lost my medical records and my old command only keeps them on file after 2 years from separation.

I was discharged back in 2003, like mentioned in my other posts with have a "personality disorder" (narrative) when I found out my father had terminal cancer. They sent me to the shrink to see what was going on and they deemed me that narrative. I have an honorable(character) discharge and the RE code is RE-3G and the separation code is GFX.

I was told to gather my service, medical and mental health records and bring them to an AF Reserve and Navy recruiter and they will submit a request for a waiver. Well since I cannot not seem to locate my medical and mental health records, what does MEPS have to refer to see if I am DQ'd or not? I am a little confused here and then the recruiter told me to get reevaluated at my own expense to through in the submission for a waiver?

What are the channels/paths I should take to get this waiver ok'd by the people at MEPS?

thanks.

MEPS doesn't approve waivers, which you will need. You will need a medical and RE code waiver from Navy Recruiting or AF Surgeon General. Did you obtain a copy of your medical and service records before you got out? If not then you will have to continue to work with St. Louis and the VA in an attempt to obtain them. I would recommend you get this and have your recruiter submit them to MEPS before you obtain an eval out of pocket. MEPS may pay for it depending on what your records indicate.

Well I was discharged, I was only given my qualifications for plane captain and my travel slip. I just received my personnel records from Millington, TN. I have been fighting with St. Louis and the VA for weeks now about my medical/dental/mental health records, but they keep telling me they have nothing on file! So as of right now, nope I have no records. So what am I suppose to do with having no records for my medical?

It took me almost 2 years to have MEPS give me a physical. I was discharged with a RE-3P (physical disability) 20%. I had to have many medical consults on my own dime. I had all my old medical paperwork from my military days. Get as much do***entation that you can the more the better. Your own doctor records saying the condition no longer exists, ect. The thing I learned is that its up to you to get everything MEPS wants on your own expense and there is no guarantee. I had a great recruiter that went to MEPS 6 times and each time he was told he needed more. Finally I got my physical and was DQ'd but recommened for a waiver. The consult MEPS sent us on was a 3 hour drive. The waiver took 6 days and was approved Good luck, its not a fast process.

I was active duty in the CG, was in a car accident and medically discharged after 8 years. I tried to return to reserve duty in the CG or Air Force but the recruiters were honest and said that they have so many "clean canidates" that to find someone to really spend all that time in waivers and want to work with you is nearly impossible. I found a really great ANG recruiter who is so nice and helpfull and really wants to help my achieve my goal. Anything they said I needed I jumped right on it. From what I have been told National Guard is more apt to giving waivers for things normally other services wold not. I would say if you find a recruiter who wants to help you suceed to me thats 50% of the battle. Best of Luck!

I have been talking with this navy recruiter and he told me to call back when I get my medical records so they can submit it up but this Air Force Reserve recruiter that I have been talking to more has been really helpful. I am suppose to go over next week sometime to go over everything. Hopefully I hear something from St. Louis about my medical records though. I just heard they take their good ole time sending the medical records if found though. So he said he is going to contact them on my behalf. Wish me luck, but I am going to do whatever it takes.

Thats good to find a helpfull recruiter. I know it took over 2 months for St Louis to send me everything, they are not really fast, typical goverment. I hope it all works out! All I can say is dont get discourged my how slow it all seems to go, remember hurry up and wait seems to be the motto!

Yeah, the only thing that sucks is that he is on his way out the area and another new recruiter is picking it up, hope she isnt a ********ter. Well, I just hope St. Louis has my medical records because that is my make/break deal ya know. Well I am on a lease with my apartment till june of 2009 so I have a whole year to get all my stuff together. Thanks for the support though.

You'd be surprised, St Louis told me they didn't have my old Navy records. I went 8 months and finally they miraculously appeared. This was 16 years ago when I joined the Coast Guard. Even if St Louis or whoever says " we don't have your records" , your records are "somewhere" keep on them, eventually they will turn up and you have a whole year to get them. CPO Kalbach
