I backed out of DEP. The guys at the ANG are saying I should have a DD214 from reserve status. I told them I never left and never took my official oath.
Should I have received one when I backed out of AF DEP over a year ago?
To my understanding, everything ive read says otherwise!
No, you only get a DD-214 for a period of active duty.
When I was in recruiting, sometimes I would have someone in the DEP program who changed their mind about enlisting. I would have them write a letter stating why they wanted out of the DEP. Then I would forward the letter to my recruiting command, along with a letter I drafted recommending discharge from the DEP. Usually, I would just say something along the lines of "If they want out now, just think what it will be like when the real stress starts." I would include their home address, and the recruiting command would mail them a letter along with an honorable discharge certificate. The letter said if they attemped to enlist in the Coast Guard in the future, a special waiver would be needed. For the record, I never had any try to come back in.

Are you talking Air National Guard or Army National Guard? If it's either you would have received an NGB22 discharge certificate. Unlike the other's being in the National Guard, you are not in DEP you are in, so you would receive a certificate. CPO Kalbach
