I am a Senior in High School, I met with a recruiter and am hoping to enlist in the Navy. I am worried about 1 thing only. My weight. I am 240 pounds and am worried that will bar me from service. I have started a workout regiment but am still worried.
I took the ASVAB and scored above average, I have a 100% clean record (not even parking tickets), I get great grades and school (riding a 3.0+) and do not get in trouble.
So, are there any military branches that offer a pre-boot camp type thing so I can shed some pounds? Thanks much guys!
My recruiting office was across the hall from the Marines (before I moved to a much nicer building). Sometimes I stopped by the office on Saturday mornings and saw the Marines coming back from PT with their applicants. I don't know if any other service do PT with their applicants.
But I think these folks had already passed their physicals and were on the DEP. Personally, I would have never done anything like that with my applicants, what if one of them was injured?
I think your best bet is to try and find some kind of civilian boot-camp style fitness program where you live.
Without a height reference, the 240 pounds doesn't mean anything. If you're 6'9" then you don't have much to lose. If you're 4'11" then you have a long way to go.
Assuming that you have a long way to go, have you considered a personal trainer?
Should he be worried about actualy signing? My son graduated HS in June and is still waiting for a job with NAVY. Did MEPS, ASVAB but nothing open. He said he may have to do DEP and wait to go to bootcamp for months.

He will have to do DEP and wait to go to boot camp. That will be after there is a job available. There are very few jobs in any branch of the military that don't require a multi-month wait in DEP.
