My son graduated from HS in JUNE. He has been working with both NAVY and USMC to take ASVAB and go to MEPS. Both services are saying they have no jobs with the exception of Spec Ops in NAVY. He works out weekly with both USN and USMC DEPr's. He would sign with either and favors USMC but has not been promised definate date for MEPS. Anyone out there know if this is going on elsewhere? (he's in pa.). Also rumor is 10/1 is a new year and things will open up, jobswise. Thanks
I was held up from being sent to MEPS by the Navy for a month.I called my recruiter everyday for a week and a half to find out what the hold up and it turned out all that was preventing them from sending me to MEPS was obtaining a note from a doctor I had only seen once, explaining the reason for my seeing her on Oct 21st, 1995. Even though I had three photocopied pages explaining the ordeal. The recruiting process is very slow, just have him call the recruiter every few days and ask if theirs anything he needs (medical/dental/criminal records, parental written statements etc.)
Or they may be waiting for the new fiscal year for money to send him to MEPS (It ain't cheap, they put me up in a hotel that charged $300/night)
I actually met with a recruiter for the first time today and they told me the same thing. i was very disapointed, but I'm still hopeful things will be different next month.... We will see. Good luck to your son
My boy made it to MEPS! Also got a needed waiver, almost all good. Now is taking Spec Ops physical as theirs are only jobs. Hopes to be sworn in my December but doesnt expect boot camp for 6-8 months.

OK well your not out of the woods yet. Your Son needs to take that training program seriously and get into shape for it. If I were him I'd get help or input from someone that is a BTDT. His recruiter might be be able to help him but if not he can start right on this website with the Military Fitness area, it's authored by a Navy Seal.
It's not to be taken lightly going Special Operations right off the street. If he fails that program it's going to have a impact on his self-confidence to an extent. The folks enlisted take this seriously when they re-enlist for it and they train hard for the selection program 6-8 months before showing up.
Well my kid took USN SEAL test! Ran, swam, pull and chin ups. Good numbers and exceeded all minimums. But fell short on crunches by about 10. I think he had to do 60 but punked out with 49!! His recruiter told me when he passes, he's in. Unless the Navy actually has new openings, he shooting for Spec Ops. He'll have to wait a month and take the test over. By then he'll be the King of Situps!
