This information gets requested once in a blue moon - don't know if you want to sticky it or just have it available.

Source: Heinrich, George F. MD, Bale, Asha G. MD, Swan, Kenneth G. MD, "Don't Know, Don't Care: Revisited," Military Medicine (International Journal of AMSUS), Vol. 173, March 2008, pp. 300-304.

Military Programs for Medical Educational Cost Reimbursement:

1. Health Profession Scholarship Program (HPSP): Similar to ROTC for undergrad education; year for year payback, all expenses (tuition, books, etc.) plus 2LT's/Ensign's salary ($1300/month); 300 Army, Navy; 100 AF positions available each year, each service.

2. Specialized Training Assistance Program (STRAP): Physicians in critical specialties, such as surgery, anesthesiology, etc., are paid a monthly stipend (equiv. to Captain's/Lt.'s salary or resident's salary) throughout residency in return for service in the Active Reserves, 2 years for each year in the program.

3. Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program (HPLRP): Physicians who have completed residency training receive annual payment to lending agency of $10,000 to a maximum of $600,000.

4. Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS): The federal medical school in Bethesda MD, like the service academies, places the medical student on active duty all four years of medical school. The student is paid a 2LT/Ensign's salary in return for 7 years active duty upon graduation. The service academies require 5 years of payback.

Just to add my $.02.

Clinical Psychology:

Army/AF/Navy - USUHS students can apply with a bachelor's degree (doesn't have to be psyc but it helps). Civilian and military are both eligible to apply and will be commissioned as a 2LT/Ensign and earn promotions while attending. Upon completion students compete for an internship with their parent service and must have dissertation completed prior to attending internship (normally).

HPSP: similar to above but only for Army.

Wrong place for this, this is called Hijacking a thread, try again in your own post, not one that is on a totally different topic.

Once a 17 year old becomes a soldier, he or she is a soldier, and could be sent out in combat situations. That's the way it should be.

I have never thought to be a part of Army. I don't fight actually i am doctor in Army camp and i look after the people in different Army camps. I am getting good experiences there and i think the army people live like the real man and rest of all just passing life. I think you people should join army for country and to enjoy the real humanity.

Okay, I am enlisting into the airforce, but once established would like to return to school for pharmacy. Will the airforce assist in tuition assistance for a PharmD degree? And, are there other grants that I could apply for through the military? I read on the internet that they do not pay for degrees after your masters, but for pharmacy you do not need a masters degree.

Are there military programs to reimburse the cost of non-medically related education, such as relating to computers, ect?
