Hello!
I am a recent college graduate and I am seriously considering joining the AF. I have a BSc in Electrical Engineering Technology and 6yrs working experience in the aerospace industry (4yrs as a design engineer). I am currently employed and making a descent living but I am very attracted to the structured life in the service. With the economy the way it is...what are my chances of getting in as an Officer at the moment (assuming I get thru the medical...)? How is the QOL for engineers or Airmen? Any feedback would be great. Cheers, CG |

You have a great chance. Call you local recruiter to submit an BOT (OTS) package. The process is slow and the next board is in 6 months, so be patient. Engineers are in need and depending on your age, you may even qualify for pilot, navigator, etc....
Submit your package and good luck. |

Is yours a BS in engineering or a BSAT in engineering? Also, was the program ABET accredited? Therre is a distinct difference in the programs, one which the military does look at.
How have you been a design engineer for that long if you're that young? Just curious. You had to have completed your BS at 19 to have been an engineer that long. Or, do you mean you were a floor engineer in a plant? Again, distinct difference. Not trying to be a pain, just figuring out the whole picture. |

Sure no prob - As stated, I have a BSc in EET (Electrical Engineering Technology). The program was ABET certified. I started college when I was 17 and graduated on time. I got picked up by an outfit as a Jr. engineer in late 2005 while in college. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time. I started out helping the techs with repairs and designing test fixtures but moved into engineering in early '06. I got in the industry during the 'boom' in aerospace. Companies were desperate for talent at the time (and still are..) Would the fact I have a BSEET vs BSEE have a major impact on the engineering positions I would be eligible for? If so, what are the ramifications? Thanks for the response. This message has been edited. Last edited by: EITYARDIE, |

I doubt it, especially given your experiences and PROVEN leadership abilities.
That more occurs with those with no experience and no leadership in industry. Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes! |

hey, EITYARDIE.
are you serious that the aerospace industries are still hiring? last I heard from the grapevine is that there are hiring freezes in all sectors. i frequently see jobs from Northrop-Grumen, Boeing, etc online when I search and after I apply they all say the positions are canceled. i get the same thing from some others I've spoken with. where are the jobs at? how can I submit to them? if you're leaving your position with your company, can I have it? lol |
