I apologize if this has been posted previously but I was curious about enlisting. I'm currently a Police Officer and was considering the national guard. Two years ago I suffered an on the job back injury and had been placed on light duty. The problem was resolved with two epidurals and physical therapy (no surgery). I have read that this is an automatic PDQ. Since I've recovered I've transfered to another department which required me to complete an abreviated (11 weeks) academy when included long distance running, self defense, firearms, grappling and daily PT. I've completed that without incident or problems and continue to perform my daily functions as a Patrolman. I guess in short I was trying to seek an opinion as to whether or not I should waste the recruiters time if the possibility of enlisting is next to none is next to none.

PDQs from MEPS do not necessarily mean that the service will not waive it. MEPS follows basically the same guidelines for all of the services with a few slight differences and will PDQ these types of things so that the service's own board can decide on a waiver.

I would at least talk to a recruiter if I were you and provide all of the details. IF he says it is possible you will likely have to submit all of the paperwork of your history for a waiver.
