I need some serious advise! In 2002, I enlisted into the Army (passed the physical at MEPS with flying colors). I was in the Delayed Entry Program for 10 month and during that time my ex husband physically abused me. Therefore, I became a single mom with a 2 year old child. Since I am not from the states I didn't had any family members to take care of my daughter and I sure didn't wanted to leave her with my crazy ex husband while going to Boot Camp and AIT. So I asked my Recruiter to get me out of my enlistment contract which he did.

Since the military was always something I wanted to do I decided this year to go through the whole military process again and came to find out that Meps had me in the system stating that I was permanently disqualified due to a knee injury. I never had a knee injury so I am assuming my prior Army recruiter screwed me. Mad

I went to my physician who sent me to CDI (Center for Diagnostic Imaging) to get x-rays of both of my knees. My physician and the CDI doctor confirmed that I don't have a knee injury nor are there any signs that I ever had a knee injury. Meps is still rejecting me to do a physical even with medical docs from my doctor.

My Navy recruiter said that there is not a lot he can do since it is in the MEPS system and due to certain regulations. To me this is like a nightmare.... How can you get permanently disqualified if no Meps doctor nor regular physician ever diagnosed you with a knee injury? So Meps basically took a Recruiters word that I had a knee injury without examine me before they discharged me.

Is there any hope? If yes what can I do?

Just an FYI. Being a single parent, you will not be allowed to enlist in ANY Active Duty branch of the military.

Even tho you are a single parent and cannot join now. That situation could change.
If it were me, I would still try to get that corrected.
Start with the Army and go up the chain of command. That recruiter has a boss. Ask to see him. No results, ask to see that mans boss. You can take this all the way up to writing a congressman.
This may be a long process.

Why do you assume he intentionally lied?
How does that benifit him? He needs you to get in to get his numbers, espesially a year ago when things were harder for recruiters.

Maybe he made a mistake, mixed up two applicants. Or maybe it was not even him. The problem could be at the MEPS level where they mixed up your paperwork with someone elses.

Why do people always jump to the recruiters lie defense for EVERYTHING?

I know some of them lie. Mine definatley didn't even tell me about the Marine Combat Training we all do straight after boot camp. I had no clue what it was until I finished boot and got told about it. But even that isn't a LIE. He just didn't give me all the information. I still got the job I wanted and finished all my training before my next semester, so I wasn't too heated.

Anyway, point is, how would this be a "lie?" Sounds like a mistake/MAJOR SCREWUP to me. And I'd be ****ed about it too! It just isn't a lie.

Yeah, I agree with Shockey here. This is one of those times when you might benefit from a Congressional Inquiry.

But I can't understand why the Army Recruiter would want to throw a wrench in things by stating you had a knee injury when you never did. Seems like it would just be a DEP dischange, life circumstance problem. Nothing medical unless it resulted from physical abuse from you husband. And yes, the single parent situation is a problem right now.

This is a good point, and much of the alleged "lying" recruiters are accused of doing stems from this. Part of the reason is the way recruiters are trained, at least the way Coast Guard Recruiters are trained. It's right there in the recruiting manual. It basically states that if you try to explain every possible thing, you will only succeed in confusing the applicant. So it says to find out what interests them and go from there. And even that confused some of the ones I interviewed.

While I was at the CG Recruit Training Center, we had a bunch of senior enlisted come to speak with the graduating recruits. This was right after the last recruit class they had, which I taught. I heard one young woman say "I'm going to an aids to navigation team, and my recruiter never told me anything about an aids to navigation team." I felt like jumping in and saying, "Well, if he had told you, would you have understood what it was?" "And would it have been the deal breaker?"

There were quite a few things my recruiter didn't tell me about. And many things I wouldn't have understood or been concerned with. I just knew I wanted to join. So I did, and took things as they came.

FYI, I actually got a court order that I signed over permanent guardianship of my child. I am not 100% certain if the mistake was on the Recruiters end or Meps. However, I feel somebody needs to fix the problem. My recruiter advised me to send a letter to the Congressman. So you guys think it's best to contact a higher up from the Army to get this taken care of???

At this point in time, I think that's your only option. Especially if you can't get help from the recruiters or their chain of command.
