When I say "knock it off"
I mean "knock it off".

Gee whiz, why can't these writers make it easy for us to disparage their comments?
It is such that the next leader of the U.S. is going to have a very difficult situation to contend with in that the economy of America is tanking, the global perspective of America is tanking, and the dollar is tanking.
What has Bush wrought on America in his zeal to force American ideology into the morass of the Middle East?
Who has the best answer to dealing with the issues of continued American presence in the Middle East?
I can only hope that the next president has more than his own interests at heart.
Or, at least, his/her inner circle has more than personal gain in mind when making political decisions that affect everyone.
I know that the preceding comment will draw out the right wing zealots that will demand that I give proof of my opinion....but it is only my opinion, based on what I have observed over the last 7 years.

I just wish these idiots woiuld stop sniping at each other and actually come out and tell us exactly what their "Plan" is. Has anybody heard anything (Except for Ron Paul trying to get his message out, but most likely wont make it onto the ballot)that even remotely sounds like a plan to lead this country for the next four years?
I've heard a bunch of Blaa blaa blaa...nothing real. Maybe we should just outsource it this time around.

Wow, that was a fantastic op-ed piece. Strangely enough it seemed to have a more neutral stance than many "news stories". He brings up, I think the most important question when it comes to our involvement in the world. What is next? I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting tired of the same old arguments. Even the stuff we debate/argue/sling mud at each other on these boards is the same old same old. If you hate Bush you hate Bush If you support him, you support him. The reasons for hate or support really haven't changed. What IS next?

Mmulder, just out of curiosity, what role do you think the rest of the government, both parties, has played in what you feel is an unsolvable mess? Where should blame lie, and what do you feel are the solutions?

I'm sure you expressed them before, but some I've missed and I thought I'd ask when our responses weren't convoluted with 6pages of back and forth rhetoric. Smile

By global, exactly how global do you mean? I mean, even at our best some region of the world has not had a good opinion of us at some time or another. The Middle east hasn't exactly been a fan of ours for decades. Europe, it seems the British are the only ones we can really trust. Much of the rest of Europe seems to put on a certain facade about how much it really supports America. The truth usually comes out when it comes time to pay up what they said the would contribute i.e. money, military resources. China and much of industrializing Asia doesn't seem to be too worried about playing fair. That to me doesn't seem to show any kind of regard for us.

What to you would qualify as a "good world opinion" of the U.S.?

Well that is a good question. One I don't have a quantifiable answer for. Maybe, my comment was only my opinion, not a statement of fact.

Mmulder, just out of curiosity, what role do you think the rest of the government, both parties, has played in what you feel is an unsolvable mess? Where should blame lie, and what do you feel are the solutions? So you want me to speculate on whose responsible for the Iraq situation? OK I believe the ego's of the few men in charge overrode any good intelligence that could have prevented this. Even after the truth was exposed, denial was so rampant that responsibility went by the wayside. No good reason has ever been presented to justify our actions. Sure we got rid of one dictator, but what about the others that are just as bad if not worse? This isn't "A Few Good Men" and Bush ain't Jack Nicholson. I think we CAN handle the truth, but we will never get it. As for solutions: withdrawal within 12 months and let them deal with their own nation building just like we did. Doubt that will happen because of the centuries of hatred amongst the "tribes".

I'm sure you expressed them before, but some I've missed and I thought I'd ask when our responses weren't convoluted with 6pages of back and forth rhetoric. Smile
