Retirees can get the FREE LibreOffice or OpenOffice (for either Windows or Linux - not sure about Mac)- both of which work better than Bill Gates' ripoff package for me. (But then, I don't use any Microsoft products, so I may be prejudiced).
It could be argued that retirees are still employes if they are collecting their pension. This would make them subject to the UCMJ for as long as they collect a pay check from the Gov.
Back to the HUP, jump on this while it works. It won't last forever.
Anyone have the army code? I tried using this, but my code didn't work. I used the "we'll look up your code" function, put in my army.mil email and they said we don't have a current promotion/code.

Retirees may be brought back for UCMJ functions. However, the process if fraught with problems. There are some interesting articles on the subject in past armed forces legal journals.
I do have an employee ID number. The Coast Guard gave it to me.
MC, The purpose of the home use program is that it serves as a way for you to conduct CG duties from home that require those MS office programs. As retirees have no CG duties at a unit or at home, and the home use program is neither a benefit nor an entitlement, they are not part of that program.
There is a free alternative to MS Office, called Open Office. It can open and save MS documents, or you can create Open Office Documents (.ods, etc); you can also convert MS to ODF.
Not going to get into a debate on which product is superior because they are so evenly matched that it is mostly just a matter of opinion.

I understand that the software is not be used by those leaving active duty--yeah, right on that one.
I'm just teasing anyway. I get software through a non-profit or through my university.
