Having trouble getting communication between the router and DSL modem, any way to test the cable short of buying a new one? Retired now so I can't borrow one from work either.

short of test equipment... you could connect your computer to the router using the patch cord and then connect to the router using your web browser. Just type in the router's IP address in the web browser and connect to it. If you can talk to the router then the cord is good...

hope this helps!

Cord tested ok - finally gave up on trying to get router and modem to work together. Bought an Actiontec DSL modem/router (all in one) set it up in about 10 minutes and now both computers share without a problem.

yeah... those all-in-one modem/routers do make things a lot easier. Glad to hear your patch cord was good.
