I just ordered my son a Wii for an upcoming B-day.
Does anyone have it or use it.
Can you give your impressions if you have used it or any ideas of some good games or accesories for the future.

I have one and tend to stick with the games that came with the console. Did buy chicken shoot which is just like the old duck shoot. Its a fun game, atleast the bowling is.

My son bought one and bought a second controller for it.

I enjoy the basic program, especially the bowling.

I think my son has other programs, but I've never played them.

The kids play all of the games, I'll have to ask them.

10 year old got his last xmas. Though the sports game that comes with it enough to get you hooked, we purchased a few other games with it as well. We recently got Mario Party 8 which is a blast. Here are some suggestions you may want to consider.

Get 1 or 2 1gb SD cards. You can get some good deals here.

We picked up 4 last xmas from Circuit City when they were pretty much free after rebates (Black Friday warrior ops required) Wink

We got an extra wireless controller w/Joystick when we got the original console but got another "free" controller when we bought some game. Here's another link that has tons of pretty good deals for the Wii and other systems. Scroll down a bit and see the dual rechargable battery packs. We paid 25.00 for 2 plus charger from Circuit city a while back but these are much cheaper (didn't know of the site till later). Not a bad deal for 17.00 bucks + free shipping. I've ordered from them before (led flashlights) and are good. On this same page, they have a HD cable. Yes.. the Wii will put out 480P and trust me, on a HD tv, it looks outstanding.. did I mention the cable is cheap and yes.. free shipping.

If you have the game cube, don't toss the controllers or mem cards as they will work with the wii. You may also want 2 wired wii controllers too. The remotes sometimes can be a pain on certain games.

Don't write it off as a kids system. The sports cd that comes with it rocks. Some guy spend 30 minutes a day playing WiiSPorts and lost 6 lbs over a course of 6 weeks. If you have WiFi in your house, the Wii can connect to the internet for updates and game downloads. We've downloaded about 10 games already. It's a nice system. Not as robust as the 360 or PS3 but it holds it own. Have fun.

edit: for the record.. my kids (all 3) have DS's and a DSlight. Still some older color game boys laying around but never played. PS2, Xbox 360 x2, Game cube, N64 and SNES. The cube, 64 and NES are boxed up and ready for the yard sale since the Wii replaced all 3. Though we had LOTS of games for the cube and nes system, we've downloaded the best ones and the CD's from the cube work on the Wii.

Depending on the age of your son, The zelda and metroid prime games rock. Also, the mario party 8, and super paper mario is very popular with the younger (7 and younger) crowd.

Thanks for the advice. It is great to hear from Coasties. When I go to some of the review sites it is hard to tell if someone is just typing a paid advertisement, has an ax to grind, or is just crazy.
At least on this forum I don't have to worry about two out of three. Wink
I am about as far away from being a gamer as can be, but my son wants a Wii.
At nine years old he seems to be more of an expert than myself but I just want to make sure this works.
Thanks again tc1, I will go with a Wii.

I'm kind of an old school gamer. I love Nintendo, and have bought pretty much every system they have made. However, I have not bought the Wii. I played it in GameStop, and thought it was lousy because the game they had didn't require the fun movements of bowling or games like that. The game was played just like an old nintendo remote.

Anyway, last night I got together with some guys and played it for over an hour. I had a blast. My wife and I are going to try to save, so we can purchase one at Christmas. It really was more fun, for me, than the PS2 or other systems I have played.

They are right, the game it comes with are so fun. I am absolutely amazed with where technology is going.

Shhh.. if I say I enjoy mario party 8, someone may use that against me and ban me from FP for violating rule nr 2 of the UA.. Whisper

But common FS.. any game that gets kids and adults alike off the couch and into the position is gotta be good.. Wink My oldest has been jumping on the Wii to play Metroid every chance he gets. They are pretty good with the remotes but some games, nothing like a good ole wired controler will do.

I love downloading the classic games and golf, son loves the Wii games....Metroid, Crash...and a few others that are too busy for me.

We are both waiting for Guitar Hero III.

IMO this is by far the best system for the bucks, seems like almost all who play it enjoy (except for the halo crowd).

I just bought mine a little over a week ago, try looking at Toysrus, nobody ever seems to think to look there, for the last week, they have had some in stock out here.

I love the wii. I have been with nintendo since the inception and by far the best system yet. Can't wait for the Wii Fit to come out. If you haven't seen the preview videos for it yet, take a look, maybe some of the CG units should look at it to keep people involved in staying active.

JA.. my oldest said there are issues with the guitar and the Wii. He's got GHII for the 360 and we just got him the new wireless unit w/game of GH3. Was going to get the Wii version for the 11 year old but he said on some of his forums, they are reporting issues (latency) between the guitar and head unit. It appears you stick a Wii-remote in the guitar and play away. There was quality issues (something that plaqued the orig GH for 360 when it first came out) too but I couldn't find anything specific on the matter. I'll keep looking.

Grandma and Pop(me)just bought one to have for the grandkids(Right, yeah sure). All were over on Easter Sunday. We had more fun as a family than wev'e had in long time. I found muscles that I forgot I had. Found out when I threw to many 93mph fast balls. Anyone know where to get a good deal on a bowling shirt? The two of us have certainily been stuck in the 20th century. To give everyone equal time what games are suited for all the family to play and ones that just the kids would enjoy. There ages are 11 down to 4. The kids today are certainly more advanced than we were at that age. There are so many games out there it's confusing.

As in most areas the Wii is hard to find. Got ours on an internet site. It was $239, 1 controller, nunchuck, sport package and free shipping. Those in the know said it was a good deal?

Any help on the games would be appreciated.

Old Fart sends.
