Thanks,

OK, there are a lot of "if's" in that question. If you are copying it from a game you own....
and if you are copying it SOLEY for your use....
and you if you do not mind voiding the warranty on the game system to add a "mod" chip....
and the last if - can you solder on that small a scale?

If the answer to all of those questions is yes, then it is possible to do that, and legaly.

I did it back in the day with the last version of the PS1, put a screen on it, and used like a big PSP. I did not want to risk the store bought copies bouncing around in the locker. I had lost alot of CD's that way already.

Just look up mod chips on google.

Most people I have heard use that program "Alcohol" for burning games.

Ex_CG_GM, doesn't the copy right laws only apply if you are cloning and making profit of the item? So technically, if you are using the programs for "backup" purposes...the copy right law does not apply... Big Grin

Yes and no. If you run a copy to give to a buddy and make no profit you are still violating the copyright law.

Some manufactureres specifically state you can make back up copies. Other's don't.

That pretty much answers my question. I don't want to modify my machine and risk killing it. Thanks for the response. And no, I wasn't going to go into a bootleg buisness....lol.

I recentlly had my xbox 360 "flashed" to play backup games. The guy who did it for me (used to be a Coastie, oddly enough) walked me through the whole process and showed me what he was doing step by step. He was even able to complete the mod without harming the tamper seal that voids the warranty. I haven't had any problems with it, and it's still capable of playing on xbox live. I found him on Craigslist. I had it done because my son is rough with discs and I was tired of losing $$ to scratched discs.

There are places you can download games online and burn them to a disk; this mod would allow me to play those games. Out of curiosity, I tried, but they are HUGE files, and my internet connection isn't the fastest, so I gave up.

Shoot me an email if you have any questions.

Exactly...you CAN NOT make a copy for distribution EVEN without profit because you're still reducing the profit of the originator/author. If in doubt...read the federal warning or the copywrite legal jumbo...
