About a week ago I got a Nook Color to use as an ereader and a small tablet using a bootable SD card in Android.
I took it back the other day when I heard a new version is supposed to be announced. Even if the new version doesn't live up to promise, the price on the older one will fall. So, either way I'll get it cheaper.
Kids gave me a kindle a little over a year ago. I love to read. The kindle has turned me into a animal. Now stuck on the old mystery writers from the 20's thru the 40's. Some great reads. Gave a Kindle 1 to my 8 year old grandson. Loves to read. A bright kid and will go far. It's going to take forever to go through the freebies. I guess I can take into the home with me.
Barnes and Noble will announce their new Nook Color on Monday. It will cost the same as the former model but still have more features than the new Kindle.
Like many I was also looking for an e-Reader that was also a tablet. I'll have to see what the new one features. It would read Word documents but only up to the 2007 version. I hope the new one will also read MS 2010 files.
I also read the old stuff. I like browsing through the page of Niles National Weekly from the early 1800s. These too are free on line.
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 (bite me Apple) for father’s day . Love it. I find myself grabbing for it more than my laptop when I'm going somewhere that I will have time to kill. Have 1 season of lost in space, 3 seasons of Emergency, various PDF's from my tech library and music. Just set it up to tether off my cell phone so I can have internet when I'm at my sons ball games, etc.. My youngest has the kindle fire. He loves it. It's rooted so he has as much abilities as mine that cost twice as much as his.
The first thing I did was get a 2nd cable and a 32gb microSD card. What I've found with these devices is they don't read cards formated in the NTFS format. FAT32 is the best you can do and restrict files (for me, movies) to be less then 4.5gb in size.
