Kinda in the market for a new TV...Three I'm currently looking at are the Pioneer Pro151FD 60 inch, the Sony Bravia KDL65W5100 65 inch and the Samsung 63B590 63 inch...Do any of you out there own one of these or have any knowledge of any of these TV's...?
Would you buy through Amazon vice a local store...Only local store in my area to sell all 3 is Best Buy, and I've heard some negative things about their customer service...
Try looking into one of the wholesale clubs in your area. The prices are at least $100 cheaper and some of them have great sales. Plus they offer protection plans as well...
Interesting thing I learned when shopping for my big screen (I bought a Sharp). Costco has their own unique model numbers for the sets they sell. I was checking specs on Sharp's website and saw two models that had identical specs. I called Sharp and was told the two sets were identical (except for an aluminum strip across the bottom) but that Costco insisted on having a unique model # to prevent people from comparison shopping.
I ended up taking the Costco price to an independent retailer and he matched it. That way I supported a local business instead of an international chain.
I have a Sony Bravia XBR series big screen and love it, if you shop around now, you should start seeing the current model start going on clearance (52" model number is KDL-52XBR9) Latest price from Sony themselves is 2299 with free shipping (you can also get a service plan as well direct from Sony).
The reason for the price drop is that Sony has just started shipping the XBR10 and 11 series TV's
I actually bought the 52" Sony XBR9 Sunday night from Sears during their Friend & Family night...Also got the Sony XBR 32" for another room along with a Sound Bar and Blu-Ray player...After taxes was right around 3 grand for all...I paid that much (actually a little more) for my last Sony 50" rear projection about 6 years ago...Great picture...
You can get same thing through Amazon and not pay taxes, but when ordering from Sony they do add the tax...I just didn't want to deal with having to take a day off for shipping...I brought it home and set it up myself...
I'm still in love with my two year old Mitsubishi 65" DLP 1080p rear projection. I replaced the bulb about two months ago for a cost of around $110. Other than that you can't beat the picture, the sound or the overall performance.
The wife has a 42" Vizio upstairs which is a nice piece of gear as well.
