I'm in the market for a new computer. I need to find a good program that totally wipes my old one clean. I have already used Diskkill on my old desktop, this program just replaced the addresses with 00. My laptop has more sensitive data and I will need a more efficient wipe. Is there any programs offered through the military to download, similar to buying windows office?
CCLeaner is freeware that has a drive sanitizing utility that offers many options up to 35 pass i believe. One pass would satisfy my needs to clean a drive but if you desire more, this may be for you. It also has many other tools that are useful for various maintenance tasks. Also, did I mention it is free. Needless to say, I am a believer.
Yeah I found that one on CNET, I will give it a try. I recently used Kill Disk, not bad one pass with 00. I need something a little more for the laptop though. Thanks for the input.

Works the same as CCleaner and you don't have to deal with those disgruntled IT's:-)

OK, doesn't necassarliy work the same but achieves what I believe to be a satisfactory result. Search for "killdisk" and you can download a free version to use. CG version should be licensed by the CG and not for personal use. Most importantly, will keep you from having to deal with the disgruntled ITs.
A few weeks ago PCWorld sent out notice of a couple free hard drive wipers. I did not save the email but you would probably find them on their website.
