I have the same problem with 2 separate DVD/CD drives: both play music and movies without a hitch, but when I put in a data-only CD, zip, zilch, nada. I've uninstalled the drivers and rebooted; the device manager claims the unit is fine.

Any ideas on what might be wrong or how to repair this?

Excuse me, but that's a very personal bit of info....

One DVD is a Sony; the other is Lite-On. Everything that can be updated, has been, and until recently there haven't been issues. One 'advice board' mentioned that the Lite-On can somehow get the registry skewed after burning audio. That's when it stopped reading.
