I got a XBOX 360 arcade for Christmas. Do I need a external hard drive and if so, is a 20 gig enough or should I get a 120 gig? Sorry, but I'm computer (game) illiterate! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Depending on what you download. I only play games so a 20gig is more than enough. If you are going to be downloading movies, games and whatever else they can come up with, then go with a bigger one.

"Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?" - Gordon Lightfoot![]() |
I just got hit, for the second time, with the "Red Rings of Death".
My son's system got hit about a year ago. I sent it in for the repairs and that lasted all of about 6 months. Since then, I bought a system for my apt so he didn't have to lug his back and forth from his mom's apt. Here we were, snowed in, school cancelled yesterday...a perfect day for him to play games but noooooooo, the Red Rings of Death are here and the system is totally locked up. Don |

When I was visited by the rings of death fairy it was a little different. I sent my XBOX back, week and a half later a recieved a brand new one. They also sent it with a letter giving me "tips" on how to aviod it crashing again. Keeping it upright, not using a aftermarket fan, and keeping it out of enclosed spaces (guessing the TV stand cabinet with the door closed). Not sure if those were the reasons but haven't had a problem since.

what are the red rings of death? Sounds like some sort of software trouble indicator. Where do these show up and how do you avaid them?
Thanks, Mark X-box name: "Paramedic pops" |

Thanks, Mark Mark, the "Red Rings of Death" is what is referred to as the red lights flashing 3/4's around your main power source button in the front of your XBox 360 console. When they flash red, might as well turn it off and find a book to read. Everything will lock up. When you system is running fine, you'll see the green rings, not red. You can read about it here. xboxredringofdeath.com/ It's frustrating but easy enough. Take off your hard drive, everything attached including the power plugs, then mail it in for repair. You can call the company and they will issue you a UPS form to print out so they will cover all the mailing expense. Just contact XBox360 at their website and you can find the number to call. I got mine back in about two weeks. Don |

When I bought my XBox I also bought an extended warranty from Game Crazy. My XBox died a few months ago and I took it back to the store. They removed my HD, plugged it into a brand new unit and off I went. Took 30 minutes instead of two weeks. The original warranty from MS had expired.
