Thinking about switching over to Firefox. Can someone give me a rundown on the pros and cons of each and if you would recommend Firefox over IE?

Why not keep them both? Might as well toss in OPERA also. IE is "embeded" in your machine so there's no really getting away from it. Frown

Here's some other browsers:
FLOCK: www.flock.com
Maxthon: www.maxthon.com
Prism: labs.mozilla.com

Flock and Prism will run on linux machines too.

Pros/Cons? Well, it's like going into a dealership and picking your color. What's pleasing to your eyes and what gives you more options. Somepeople don't like opening the hood much so IE would be choice 1. But's it's very service needy (updates) and people like to pick it apart. It still works well for what it does and for now, is the standard for HTML viewing online meaning you'll have less problems viewing your webpages vs FF. FF is cool and has lots of plug ins so if you like to tinker, FF is your boy. I have had some websites I visit not display correctly with FF so I just open up IE, past the URL and tada.

Have fun.

Duckcop,

I use Firefox pretty much exclusively. I find it is more reliable and crashes less. My wife and I leave our computers on all the time. I can walk up to my computer hours later and pick up surfing where I left off. 9 0ut of 10 times if I go up to my wifes computer there is an error message that explorer needs to be restarted. We will have the same result running both browsers on the same machine also. Explorer crashes , Firefox is still going strong.

I also recommend Thunderbird as an alternative email editor. Both programs are customizable also. Add what you want and remove what you don't.

The "restore session" feature in Firefox has come in very handy with power cuts, etc. Both products mentioned are very stable.

I keep IE because sometimes it is the only browser some lame website supports.

One of the Credit Unions here in Oregon will ONLY allow access to your accounts via FireFox. Pizzed the wife off when she calls tech support cause she can't log on and they tell her to open FF and she say what is that. They reply, "It's the only browser you can use to access your accounts, we don't support IE" Easy enough fix but that is all she uses FF for, everything else is IE.

Personal pref is for IE but only cause I don't like change to much. Have a nice day all.

Now that is an ironic twist! Eek

I wonder if their security folks had anything to do with that?
