I just got my orders to petaluma for IT 'A' school and I have a few quetsions about being married and at school.

What is the chance of securing on-base housing at TRACEN? Since I will have to stand duty, and given the INDOC program, will I also be assigned a barracks room? Where does the class muster every morning / where would I meet them if I am not staying in the bachelor's quarters?

Basically, any advice from someone who attend 'A' school while married would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Married guys normaly get on base or Navato housing I think. They also are assigned a barracks room as when on duty you have to sleep there.

All mustered in the morning in front of baracks regardless of where they lived. I was single at the time.

There is no housing available onbase for students. There may be space available at the CG Housing in Novato approximately 35 to 40 minutes away from TRACEN.

Even as a married member you will have a barracks room assigned to you - you'll be sharing it with two roommates. That's where you'll spend the night during indoc and during your duty days...

Your class advisor should be contacting you in the next few weeks and they are your best resource for getting pre-arrival questions answered.

Thanks for the replies.

The FS1 in charge of housing did contact me the other day.

I am currently trying to locate an apartment in Petaluma or Rohnert Park.

I cannot wait to get to 'A' School.

Anyone here familiar with Rohnert Park? Seems equi-distant from Tracen and about $400 cheaper for a comparable abode than Petaluma.

About 30 mins from base if I remeber right. It's one of the big liberty van stops. Taking the back roads are a must, it's also the liberty van route. Avoids alot of traffic. If I get stationed at Petaluma it is a place I would consider for living. Good luck, have fun at school, and stay outa toruble! Very easy to dig yourself a hole there... They are quicker to through the book than life rings at the TRACEN.

I'm glad to see that you are putting some thought into your upcoming time at TRACEN. As the others have already stated married members will be given a barracks room to stay in on duty nights and be given BAH to seek housing on the economy. Don't worry too much about the daily routine, that will all be clarified for you during the week long indoc period. More details will be sent to you about IT School approximately 4 weeks before your class convenes by your class advisor. If you are in the next class that convenes (IT 06-10) you will start indoc on 04 JAN and your class advisor will be IT1 Gottberg. Feel free to look him up in the GAL.

Housing is always a matter of opinion so I will give you mine. Many students choose to live in Rohnert Park for its close proximity (20 min) and relatively cheap price. Windsor at Redwood Creek has jokingly become known as "off base housing" due to the number of Coasties that live there. Its clean, nice, shortest commute, and they are familiar with CG members. Reserve a place once you know you are transferring for the best deal. There is also Mountain Shadows, which is comparable and Crossbrook which is cheaper but a bit older. If you have any questions, I rarely log on to FP but I will usually respond through CGDN email quickly.

Thanks so much for you advice. I really appreciate it.

I will be attending the Jan 04 class.

I had a conversation with my BMC today, who recently got back from Chief's Academy. he also reccomended Rohnert Park. I am pretty sure I am going to be looking in that area.

Once again, thanks for the replies.

Very Respectfully,

SN Bullock
