Sure they can but they won't because there are more IT1s then there are IT2s and several of the IT2 afloat billets are filled by IT1s. Wink

Thought there's more IT2's than IT1's 209 IT1 billets and 249 IT2 billets in the CG.

I'm a 2nd and there only a few things I see beating me out on a U/W IT1 billet.

My wife.

Higher priority 1st or 2nd want the job to.

Detailer won't let me go back to see due to preferring to send 0 sea time IT's whether they like it or not and not letting IT's with sea time go.

Being on the IT1 list helps. Will finally have my butt on it Nov.

Back to the main topic why you ask?

Weather the wife wants it or not I will have several U/W billets on my list. Told her she don't have a choice I'm a priority 4 so gota have every where that's open that we would be willing to go to vs. getting stuck with something we didn't want period just because we didn't have something on the list. Also told her AK will always be on the list if it's open. Just hope when push comes to shove when orders come in I'm not bacheloring it.

According to the most recent force notes there are 230 IT1s and 256 IT2s, not too far from even. I do know several guys that Made 1st in the past year that are still in 2nd class billets so there must not be a shortage of IT1s going around. Anyway good luck with getting what you want. Don't know why you want a cutter so bad. I just want one because I'm single and it will give me points towards the SWE. Plus a cuttermans pin on an IT is pretty sweet. Apparently there are three cutter billets for ITs this time around CGC Boutwell, CGC Healy and either the Bertholf or the Waesche not sure which one. Just putting it out there that I asked the detailer for any boat in the CG anywhere, but it seems that there must be other IT1s out there that want to get underway so I was just asking to see how many I'm up against.

I meant not sure why you want a cutter so bad being married and all. Then again I've never been married so maybe getting underway (away from the wife) sometime isnt that bad for you... Confused

Good luck getting a cutter! And yes the cutterman pin is very nice to have. I was glad I hung around for one last patrol on the 270 I was on to get it. Felt pretty good being a IT3 with the pen. Got a lot of flak and weird looks though. "What you get in trouble and busted down", No... "Hey your on land now, you have to lose the temp pen"... It's not a temp, 5 yrs 9 days ****!

Theres no bad U/W billet out there, it's what you, your shipmates, and your command make of it. A bad CO, XO, or horrible morale is a poison that will turn it from your greatest experiance in the CG to the worst 2 or 3 years of your life.

I loved being U/W. There is more job satasfaction, you see the benifits of you doing your job every day, and the consequnce of not doing it. An IT on a ship has a major affect on the morale and productivity of the crew. Prior to SIPRNET warning shots and disabling fire took all day to get through some times, watched go fast's get away before because the time it took to get permision from shore. Now you get the premission prety fast. Haveing all your gear up is a must. Was several times when I was U/W that my self and shipmates where able to make/recive a inmarsat call to speak with a firend or loved one before they died.

The extra pay with sea time is nice, and port calls a blast if you get good ones. It's what you make of it. Some times I hated it though and couldn't wait to xfer, but always looking back it was, damn I had fun!

The points toward advancement, and xfer priorty is very nice.

My wife is willing if it comes to it to let me go back, but prefers not. I'll need the points for ITC though cuz will burn them all up on IT1.
Wife only lived with me long enough to see one patrol before I xfered to land.

You defantly come out a more well rounded IT. You come to respect the cutters more too and provide better support from land later on.

From the looks of the lack of post on this discussion, I gather no other IT1s out there want one of the three afloat billets. So I should have no problem getting any one of them...

I am one of the few IT's with a cutterman pin. Also AY10. Trying for one of the 2 AK billets. Prefer Kodiak.

3 AK billets now. Maybe I will get lucky and make it up there. Seems a few people are asking for AK this year.
