Ive always wanted a career in technology so I plan to put my name on the IT A School list. I researched and almost every cutter I looked at did not have an IT rating on it. On the recruiting website it said ITs usually work out of ESUs and ESDs and are dispatched to shore units and cutters from here. But I only saw like two of these units in District 8 in St.Louis and New Orleans.
So my question is where are ITs stationed? And if we are dispatched from the units above, how long is the dispatch?
And I dont mind going on a cutter or anywhere. I just want to get an education in IT, serve my country and make a life for myself
IT's are stationed on cutters. For example, there are independent IT2s on 210's, there are also IT1/2/3's on 378's and the new NSC's. We are also stationed at ESU's like New Orleans, Miami, Portsmouth, Cleveland, Seattle, Boston, Alameda and Kodiak. Each ESU has Detachments called ESD's... They are usually located at or "near" a major unit. Under ESU New Orleans, there are ESDs at Galveston and Corpus Christi, TX and New Orleans, Mobile,AL and Panama City, FL and one in Pascagoula, MS.
I'm currently at ESD Mobile located in Sector Mobile. Last year, we were deployed to New Orleans and Texas after Hurricanes Gustav and Ike to assess damage to units and setup workstations and phones for temporary commands. Let me know if you have any other questions.
