I apologize firsthand if this has already been discussed, or is common knowledge in the IT community...I've been stuck on a cutter for three years and have only heard rumor of what is happening. After reading Admiral Allen's email this morning I thought I would throw it out there and ask.
So, here is my question: Are there any major changes occurring at the ESU/ESD level? (aside from us all being phased out to the civilian sector...)
Admiral Allen states "We intend to unify our entire support structure and business practices into a single mission support model for the Service." Does this mean ESU's will take on additional roles? Or are ESD's becoming more independant? Any knowledge or thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.

From what I understand, as it stands currently, the ESU/ESD structure will feel the least change of anyone during the transition. Most of the changes will be made at the top levels, i.e. combining/dissolving of LANT and PAC into a single entity at the head (top of the pyramid). In addition, most of the change will be virtual vice physical for the first few years or so.

This is, of course, all subject to change.

Good topic. I heard that, like was said, there will be one MLC and a more stream-lined chain.

Also, like sectors, I bet that some standardization will be sought at least at the ESU level.

Someone may have to finally decide if it'll be eOn (LANT) or Nortel(PAC). And, should ESU's include the ESD function(PAC), or should their be a separate OPFAC and ESD co located(LANT)?

My opinion; eOn's and ESD's for field, fully staffed ESU's for Command, oversite, and management.

I remember there being talk about having 2 Super ESU's, Portsmouth and Alameda, but don't know much more about it.

You guys deal a lot with reservists at the ESU and ESD level?

At the ESD's that I've been at, it seems to me that there are more ET reserves than on the IT or TT side.
