Just wondering if the 0811 MOS gives plenty of field/combat opportunities. I want to go arties because of those guns, but I'd like to have chances to get out there in front...coming from the wing, I'm salivating for this s**t...
Heard something about arties being used for various other duties, like provisional rifle companies, IA's with ETT's, etc...field opportunities. Is this the norm in the artillery field? Any info would help. S/F
When I left in 04 we were in the field just about half the year, more if you were working up for float/deployment. When we deployed in 03 we started out as an arty unit, then became provisional rifle bn. Currently talking with some of my friends still on active duty, it depends on where you are deployed. Afgahn still useing arty in its traditional role, while Iraq they are being used as MP's, provisional rifle units, and glorified motor T. Shockingly I hear there are guys that are getting close to eas form there first hitch that have never fired a howitzer there entire time in, yet have 3-4 deployments under there belt.
