Stephen, I went to P.I. Jan. 13th 90. I was a local boy so after getting sent to MEPS in Columbia we got bussed down to Beaufort on a Greyhound. Dropped off then the 5 of us stood around at an abandoned bus station for an 1/2 hour waiting for another bus to come by and take us onto the island. We didin't even get the thrill of the D.I. coming on and saying get off my bus as their were civilians on the bus with us. The driver just told us to get out and stand on the foot prints. We stood there a good 10 minutes before a D.I. noticed us and came out screaming. Oh and I never had to dig the X.O.'s pit but you missed all the fun things like registering a round, finding some azimuth line, etc.
Ron, Not sure how those 120mm are going to work out. First I've heard of them was when a client of mine neighbor who happens to be an FDC guy at 11th Marines told me they were even getting them. That was 2 years ago. By the way my Bro-in Law is from Kingsport and his dad retired from Kodak.
I searched his name last year and found out he was down there. Then by chance, when I looked at your son's profile, I saw that he went to school there. Definately a small world.
He taught me how to be a great NCO. I learned a lot from him. Still use what he taught me to this day.
Next time I get down there, my wife's aunt lives in Elizabethton, I will have to look you all up.
