Not the 1stSgt, but I was an FO. Communications is the lifeblood of fire support. There are enough communicators attached to a Bn that they make up a very large platoon in HQ Battery. Every element in a BN/Battery needs a radio(s). For example, the Naval Gunfire Section on float had 4 radio operators out of 9 Marines and 1 Navy Lt. We had 3 PRC-104s, 3 PRC-77s, 1 MRC-138 and 1 This message has been edited. Last edited by: SCMerle, |

Basic Training |
I was with G2/12 which was part of 5/11. They had actually named it that after 5/11 moved from the stumps to Pendleton in 92.

Eat donuts, hide out at the antfarm Seriously you will be a busy young man, in addition to your Comm duties, there is a better than average chance that you will be slagged for Local Security. |

Basic Training |
SCMERLE:
My son is finishing up his initial MOS training at Fort Sills. He heard word from his instructor that he and some of his classmates will be getting PDS at 29 palms; that he thinks he will be assigned to the 3/11. They haven't received their actual orders yet, this is what he was told. He is also very pumped because one of the instuctors told him anyone getting PDS at 29 palms will be deployed. He thought it sounded like that would happen fast. He is very pumped about it. I understand he has received his basic MOS training(0844), but I thought they would be giving him a little more training before he deployed, maybe some actual live firing experience training etc...? Is it likely he would be deployed without any further MOS experience than the basic he is about to finish? Is it possible his instuctor was just guessing at the likelyhood of imminent deployment for the guys getting assinged PDS at 29 palms over Camp Pendleton, or any of the other possible PDS locations for 0844 MOS'? or is an instuctor privy to that kind of info? Just wondering how long we have until he deploy's. Thanks for any insight on the subject. |
