back in the early to mid 80s when I was with G 3/14 we still used 05 howitzers stamped on the breach blocks were the dates the were manufactured they were all WWII weapons over the years I have come across info both marine history books and the internet that those same guns very well may have been used in the battle of Iwo Jima
