As someone who is not from the 08 community, I am both excited and somewhat apprehensive about attaching to an artillery battalion during my tour in Iraq. Can anyone give me some insight into the Arty community? I've heard ya'll can be kinda "different" (in a good way).

Thats a good one Lt. A lawyer calling Red Legs "different". I dont think you have a reason to be apprehensive about going with an Artillery Bn. You will find that they are just as hard charging as everyone else, you may have to talk louder around the gun bunnies tho. Lots of good Marines in the community. If you get a choice, stay with the FOs. Unfortuantely, most of the Battalions that go over dont take their guns.

Hmmmm....arty going without their guns??? Sounds like Artinfantry, to me....

Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, most have been going without them. Provisional Infantry Battalion or Provisional MP Battalion.

Hopefully, things have cooled off alot from what it was a year ago, when my kid was over there.
