Don't mean to intrude but I figure my question best suited this area. Anyways I was wondering whats the daily life like for a Marine artillery unit when not deployed? Just wondering because I might decide to take up a few college classes if possible. But anyways, any answers would be well appreciated.

additionally, do artillery Marines sometimes function as grunts?

If you look down the list you will find what your looking for. No you will not function as grunts in the sense that you will do planned ambush's etc.. Sometimes you will be asked to do grunt like things. I did JTF missions, Trap missions, MSR security, act as an agressor force to harass the the grunts, provisanial rifle company to do grunt things so the real grunts can be freed up to do other things more to their trade, etc.

Artillery brings dignity to what would otherwise be just a brawl.

It all depends on the Op Tempo of your unit. I found that as a junior enlisted Marine, it would have been very difficult to take classes. We were constantly going to the field, never knowing what time we would get off for the day, etc. There are other MOSs where it would be easier to take college classes during your off time.
